Almost all supermarkets will sell cognac – Hennessy vs has a cream coloured label and is the cheapest cognac in their range. You should also be able to find it in off licenses and probably licensed corner shops too. If you want to buy online, you can try virgin wines, thresher, majestic, oddbins, chateau online, etc. (VS by the way stands for Very Special. The next Hennessy grade is VSOP – Very Superior Old Pale, and XO, which is reckoned to stand for eXtra Old – the different grades contain different blends of eaux-de-vie matured for different lengths of time. Despite what you might think about cognac, the younger, cheaper grades are worth trying with tonic water, juice or coke as a long drink. Once you get to XO it’s a bit of a waste to mix it! Other cognac producers have similar grading systems.
