And us an encyclopedia for further information. Now Hannibal was the Head General of Carthage. He fought against rome in the second punic war. He is most famous for marching his army, including war elephants, through Spain, and across the Swiss alps to attack Rome from the North. He never lost a major victory in Northern Italy and maintained his army there for over a decade. He was trying to establish peace. But the Romans led a counter attack on Carthage (city) and he was forced to return to his capital’s aid. He was defeated there by the Romans during the battle of Zamma. He fled into exile into Selucia, acting as a military advisor to Antiochus III during his war against Rome.
