The firmness is controlled by a pressure monitor and an air pump. If you follow the directions, it should not decrease pressure during the night. If it does, the pump will kick in and replace the pressure. What can happen is that the bed is pumped up to its highest pressure without anyone on the bed. Then when the bed is occupied, the sensor senses too much pressure and releases some. The directions say to adjust the pressure while you are lying in the bed. You can test out the beds in the show room, and see if the max firmness is enough for you. If not, you can borrow the spare bed at my parent’s house. I think my dad replaced the inner springs with a big piece of plywood. I miss my bed when I visit there. Test out the bed at the showroom before you buy. Don’t just buy from the 1 800 number. There are different thicknesses of foam that go on top of the air mattress at the core, which can also affect the firmness. I hope this helps.
