Abstract Art is a tern used to describe paintings/sculptures that abandon the traditional European concept of art as an imitation of nature. It is the reduction of natural appearances and construction of works of art from non-representational basic forms. It is spontaneous and a form of 'free' expression.There are many sub-categories under abstraction and some of these are constructivism, suprematism, de stilji, neo plasticism, expressionism and abstract expressionism. Some of the more famous artists are Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) who stresses on the importances of spirituality. Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) who headed the art movement de stijl, believes that binary opposites like static and the dynamic, horizontal and vertical, negative and the positive should be brought into equilibrium.
