Does anyone know any good methods for remembering to play a piece of music on the violin right?
Metronome! Different speeds. Once you are confident that you are playing the piece in the correct rhythm at the speed you want, then begin cycling it on once off once. This will help you create an inner rhythm that essentially is an internal metronome. It is as if the metronome steady beat is your heartbeat internally and you must play in rhythm with it. If you turn off the metronome and can hear it for only one phrase, then that’s how long you have the metronome off for. After a while, you will have the internal rhythm (tempo) beating so strong, you can’t play it wrong. Memorizing is the same way, look at the music one, look away. Having to relearn something that you learned wrong is about 10 times harder than learning it right in the first place. That means that the next piece you learn, you should place special emphasis on learning the rhythm as well as the notes. Sit down and tap the rhythms with your pencil before applying notes if you think that there is a spot that is rhythmical
