Does anyone know how to bypass the barracuda web filter?

I assume you’re at work or school and trying to bypass the filter they’ve set up to keep you from surfing pr0n or Fark or whatever. There’s a number of ways you can do it, but the way I would do it is set up a remote desktop on my home computer, then use an http tunnel to connect to my home system. It’s encrypted, so unless they install a keylogger they won’t know what you’re doing. http://www.sharewareconnection.com/titles/tunneling.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/…/…

Remote Desktop Client (RDC) in Windows Vista or 7 is by far the simplest and easiest way to do this. I run my own RDC at home for just this purpose. By using Remote Desktop your connection is entirely encrypted so, as the previous answerer mentioned, unless they’re using a keylogger all of your activity is private. OMFGWTFBBQ!!! THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT!! Anything harmful you do, e.g. downloading that virus-filled porn video, STAYS ON THE REMOTE MACHINE!! This keeps you off your IT professional’s radar and ensures privacy in the stuff you do, e.g. not breaking your work or school computer, but rather your home machine.

You will need a desktop computer that is always on and a dynamic DNS. You will also need to set up port forwarding for port 3389 (the port RDC uses). If your IT person is already smart to this port and blocked it, you will need to configure RDC to use a port that isn’t blocked. Google how to set all this stuff up, it’s simple enough. If you’ve set everything up correctly you should be able to open RDC up on the computer at school and type something like: myremotecomputer.ddns.com or myremotecomputer.ddns:44978 (if you had ot define a custom port, the example here is 44978).

I strongly advocate this method of bypassing filters as it almost never harms the work or school terminal your using and your stuff stays private, e.g. you can only break your own stuff. Good Luck!
