Does anyone know how to knit a zigzag pattern?
heres one showing the zigzag color change pattern http://home.howstuffworks.com/free-knitt… Zigzag Stitch Row 1 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purlwise with yarn in back, knit in front and back of next stitch, knit 4, slip slip knit decrease, knit 2 together, knit 4, *(knit in front and back of stitch) 2 times, knit 4, slip slip knit decrease, knit 2 together, knit 4; repeat from * until 2 stitches remain, knit in front and back of stitch, knit 1. Row 2: Slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, purl to end of row. Row 3: Repeat row 1. Row 4: Repeat row 2.
That scarf is either knit in the round or double wide and seamed. I can’t get the resolution high enough to count stitches, but it appears to be a multiple of 14 stitches. The pattern would be knit across for the first row for the number of chevrons you want. next round, *p2tog, p4,m1pwise, p1, p1, m1pwise, p4, p2tog*. Next round p, repeat these 2 rounds for 4 rounds, then change all the p stitches to k stitches for 4 rounds. Alternate sections of purl rounds and knit rounds for the desired length, cast off, add fringe. You might find a different, possibly better, set of instructions by searching for Chevron Stitch pattern.
In knitting it is often called a chevron pattern. Here is a website showing a similar pattern: http://clairemitchell.wordpress.com/2007… Hope this helps. Good luck.
