Does anyone know of any solid programs where we can send care packages/letters/etc to soldiers overseas?
A terrific program is OperationPaperback.org – you collect reading material for the troops and addresses are provided to you to send the boxes. It’s great because it gives the troops something to do in their time off, plus a paperback can fit in their gear and they take it with them, and so on. I collected a bunch from work and sent many boxes over there and got letters and photos back from some very grateful people. This is a completely non-profit organization – you do not have to buy anything from them, but they are very careful about giving out addresses and keeping our guys/gals safe. The people organizing it are very nice, responsive, and totally interested in doing as much as possible to support our sailors, marines, soldiers, and airmen. www.operationpaperback.
