The reasons for high gas prices are: 1. The falling dollar. Current monetary policy to try to keep us out of a recession is causing this as well as causing inflation. The president could ask the Fed to reverse this policy, but then he would be slammed by those so concerned about the credit “crisis” and a possible recession. 2. Environmental policy which prohibits oil companies from drilling for more of our own oil and forces them to import it from other countries. The president could work with congress to lift these restrictions, but would be slammed by environmentalists who oppose expansion of drilling. 3. Ethanol mandates. Current policy is forcing gasoline distributors to add corn based ethanol to gasoline. This is less efficient than gasoline and the production of it creates more pollution and damage to the environment than it saves. It also results in higher food prices and food shortages. This policy is pure lunacy. 4. Gasoline taxes. Congress keeps putting pressure on the oil co
