Does digested food go to the hepatic portal artery?

Hi, I think you mean Hepatic Portal Vein (HPV)…yes nutrients go from your digestive system to the liver first except for lipids (fat) go to the lymphatic system first. If the HPV is congested (due to Liver cirrhosis) then nothing will go forward and in turn all the veins that empty into the HPV (several) will also become congested, all these congested veins will swell and start leaking creating swelling of the tissue surrounding them (arms, legs, abdominal cavity…) and damage to the organ that is trying to empty its blood into that congested vein causing it to ulcerate, have sores, and after awhile start bleeding (like the stomach & esophagus) others swell up with clotted blood ( hemorrhoid)… All the blood from veins (venous blood) and all the lymph (fluid surrounds all body muscles and tissue) will ultimately empty into the heart and from there it all gets pumped back to your body for the cycle to start again. This is just a quick overall picture…I hope this will help. good lu
