Does Dr. Houser use gummy bear breast implants?
In the United States, gummy bear implants are only available to patients enrolled in clinical trials which are being conducted to investigate their safety. Gummy bear implants are made of a cohesive silicone gel very similar to the cohesive silicone gel in the breast implants (MemoryGel) that Dr. Houser uses. True gummy bear implants are tear-drop shaped. Many board certified plastic surgeons are concerned that due to the teardrop shape, rotation of gummy bear implants may occur. In round silicone breast implants, rotation of the implants is not an issue. In addition, gummy bear implants require a larger incision on the breast. Some of the confusion surrounding gummy bear implants comes from the fact that frequently, and especially in the media, the term gummy bear implant is used to refer to any silicone gel breast implants.
