The most recent evidence suggests that many of the benefits of the hormone replacement are not benefits at all. Combinations of estrogen and progesterone cause more side effects than it is worth. In any case, Dr. Kessler feels natural hormone replacement is just as effective in the treatment of post-menopausal problems. Diet and exercise also have a great effect on hormone balance. Each person has different needs, and a history and physical exam as well as lab tests and bone density tests are needed to determine the best program for an individual patient.
