For the study, researchers enrolled 3,069 adults who were 75 years and older at the start of the study. The participants were randomly assigned to take 120 milligrams of ginkgo twice per day or a placebo (no ginkgo) for several years. Unfortunately the study did not show that ginkgo prevented memory loss in this group. Now the researchers have published a paper on results from a “secondary analysis” of the GEM study. They compared the risk of hospitalization for cancer between participants who took ginkgo for 6+ years and those who did not.
