Does God approve of people owning or bowing down to religious statues?
No. He abhors idols and any graven images… “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me” [Exodus 20:4-5] We are saying that we hate God, when we violate His commandments and when we make excuses for doing so. Owning and bowing down to statues is still idolatry even if it is approved of by a Catholic priest. I would urge you to read the above verses from Exodus chapter 20 every time you look at or bow down to a statue, and also consider this: What makes a Catholic any different from those who own and bow down to their chubby little Buddha idols?
