Does going from total meat eater to vegan help u loose weight?

It depends on the dietary choices somebody made as a meateater and then the new ones as a vegan, as well as your level of exercise and your metabolic rates. There are no carbohydrates (sugars) in meat so you are increasing your intake of these when going vego. Since sugars are stored as fat, it is possible that you may put on more weight. Some people have higher metabolic rates than others, meaning that changing to vego will give them more energy. For people with slow metabolism, their may be slight weight gain. You have to tailor your lifestyle to these biological cues when changing your diet in order to remain at a healthy weight.

Meat has a higher concentration of calories, and it’s calories that cause you to gain weight. So if you still eat the same amount of calories in vegetarian food then you will not lose weight, but you will have to eat more of the less calorie concentrated vegan foods for this too happen. Also, a recent study showed that exercising did not help many people lose weight because the extra activity caused them to eat back more calories than burned, so if you exercise, by all means don’t not eat, but make sure you are not eating back much more than you burned to offset the burned calories. Good Luck!

Going vegan *can* help you lose weight, but it will not necessarily do so… If you are eating healthy, i.e., low carbs, i.e. very little sugar and starches, and you are eating lots of leafy green vegetables, and not too much fried food, you will probably lose some weight. Most vegans I know just eat anything that appeals to them that is not of animal origin, and some of them are on the hefty side. If you go raw vegan, you have a better chance of losing weight, but, then again, it is not necessrily what will happen — lots of the “raw gurus” are chunky, because they eat things which are high in sugars, such as delicious raw vegan desserts. It all boils down to eating healthy … just being vegan is not going to make you lose weight, unless you cut out high-calorie food.
