Google had the right to fire the employee who authored a controversial 10-page memo arguing for less emphasis on gender diversity in the workplace. The document was first posted to an internal company forum on Friday, August 4,2017 and immediately went viral among Google employees; it was then leaked to the media over the weekend, setting off a firestorm of outrage and debate while highlighting the company to meaningfully diversify its workforce. So yes Google has the right plus to be honest anywhere whom wishes to fire a employee doesn’t have to state a logical reasoning decision to do so now a days its the right to fire law!

Lets get something straight here. Google being a company has the right to fire employees that are seen as an obstruction to the smooth implementation of company policy. The policy in question here is increase in gender equality while assigning of roles within the company itself.

Medieval thoughts such as the one the engineer based his diversity memo on suggest that men and women are born different in terms of intellectual and psychological capacity. He has tried to be pragmatic in his approach. Yes. But the essential premise is wrong. Women being who they are today are a product of societal norms and not biology.

I am not saying that there are no differences at all. For the most part, men do have higher physical strength and so are more suitable for heavy lifting. But this is GOOGLE we are talking about here. As a forerunner in the marketplace, do you think they would have any way to accede to the slightly gynophobic memo?

Yes Google had the legal right and in context of today’s society, the moral obligation to remove a person from a team who could and would be a liability to the organisation. Biological Essentialism – the primary research that said memo is based upon also gives us basis for racism, homophobia and apartheid, is not scientifically accurate.

Even a bunch of employees from Google were upset at Demore’s memo. Causing damage to workplace harmony with biased judgement such as ‘Men are better than women’ IS rightful grounds for firing an employee, or should they wait till they start actively sabotaging women?
