HEAD Intelligence technology uses piezoelectric materials that generate a voltage in response to applied mechanical stress. The piezoelectric effect is reversible in that piezoelectric crystals, when subjected to an externally applied voltage, can change shape by a small amount. In other words, the use of piezoelectric material by HEAD is designed to increase the stiffness of the racquet frame while dampening vibration, with the goal being to increase both the power and comfort characteristics of the racquet. The piezoelectric material, which makes up what HEAD calls its “intellifibers”, is designed to transform the mechanical energy generated at ball impact into an electrical response which stiffens the racquet.
