Does HTML5 support adaptive/live HTTP streaming?

0

Question: It seems that HTML5 only supports progressive download. Has W3C considered to support any advanced media delivery mechanism in HTML5, e.g. HTTP adaptive streaming? Or has it been decided that this is rather an implementation issue (i.e. selection and implementation of advanced media delivery method are up to browser implementers/providers)? If true, then CPs and service providers may have to prepare different versions of contents and also implement multiple advanced media delivery mechanisms. HTML5 neither supports nor precludes adaptive/live HTTP streaming system. Some Web browsers, such as Safari, provide specific extensions for handling video with adaptive/live streaming while using the HTML5 video element. W3C has been working on media fragments which might be helpful to address adaptive/live HTTP streaming. There are also drafts circulating within the IETF.
