One of the most popular and safer cold sore treatments is the application of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) onto the blistered area. This method known as herpes hydrogenation has been suggested to have the ability to kill cold sore virus. Once highly oxygenated, the herpes virus reportedly loses its strength to live so that they eventually die. Hydrogen peroxide for cold sore treatment comes in many forms: topical H2O2, oral H2O2, intravenous H2O2 with DMSO, hyperbaric oxygen, ozone insufflations, and so on. These are usually employed in combination with other methods. Oxygenation in the body is actually believed to increase the body's resistance to free radicals, bacterial infection and oral herpes viral infections.
