Does Iredell look at surrounding calendars to see how and when workdays are used?
Not having a day this long is discouraging to dedicated teachers who are stressed out and having difficulty keeping up with all the work. If other counties can provide workdays during the year, this county should also be able to. This needs to be addressed when planning the new calendar. ISS calendar has been developed in conjunction with a calendar committee that has established priorities. While it is impossible to speculate for all counties in NC, Charlotte-Mecklenburg can be addressed. Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools does not operate on the block schedule, therefore they only need one day for a workday between semesters in January. Therefore, they can spread their workdays out more than ISS. Due to the fact that ISS is on the block schedule, the workdays are concentrated in January to insure adequate turnaround time for the second semester at the high school level.
