Does it make sense to determine NT-proBNP in a patient with an acute coronary syndrome?

0

A number of studies indicate that NT-proBNP can serve as an independent predictor of prognosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome (without ST segment elevation). However, therapeutic implications are not fully defined. Based on currently available data it is assumed that testing NT-proBNP in conjunction with other markers of inflammation and tissue damage may contribute to risk stratification and optimization of treatment in patients with acute coronary syndrome. In the future, negative test results for both troponin T and NT-proBNP may aid in identifying those patients with acute coronary syndrome who are at low risk for cardiovascular events and may therefore be further assessed on an outpatient basis.
