I don’t think there is such thing as a cure for depression. There are ways to manage it. For some, meds can be quite helpful, even lifesaving. But the particular anti-depressants used and their effectiveness depend upon the individual. That’s why it’s important to work with a skilled psychiatrist or pharmacologist who is well versed in this field. As for your comment to another user, for some meds are far from a bandaid- they are a crucial part of being able to lead a stable, productive life- and if the cost of that is taking them for life, the price can be well worth it- much like one would take medication for a heart problem or any other medical condition. That just seems to carry less stigma than having to do the same thing for the mind.
