Does MACCA endorse the organic standard and recommend it as an alternative to intensively farmed animal products?
The organic standard is relatively new. And many corporations are rushing to capitalize on consumers’ demand for organic products. Organic animal products usually come from animals that have been fed exclusively vegetarian diets. And usually, they avoid using hormones and harmful chemicals. Organic farmers follow basic humane standards for raising farm animals. So the organic standard seems to be acceptable from that point of view. But MACCA implores consumers not to shirk their responsibilities by relying on organic labels or other “feel-good” marketting messages. Consumers must not assume that someone else is watching out for their concerns and producing products to their own level of acceptable standards. Consumers must remain vigilent and must investigate for themselves the various products they choose support.
