The summary is that back in 80's NY city officials decided to dump garbage in 106 miles off shore instead of just 12 miles and then realized it is not good for the environment either. Now there seems to be no dump site in ocean for NYC. New York City used an ocean dumping site 12 miles offshore for the last time yesterday. It plans to use a site 106 miles out for dumping sewage treatment waste from now on.
