Does nursery school prepare a child for kindergarten?
Manitoba educators are concerned because many children are unprepared for kindergarten. Do nursery school programs help a child academically and socially? This is the 2nd part of a study on the effects of nursery school: EFFECTS OF NURSERY AND PRESCHOOL Several large and carefully designed evaluations of early childhood programs, including nursery programs, have converged on several conclusions about the effects of organized programs for young children. The conclusions can be summarized as follows: 1. Well-implemented programs tend to benefit children from low-income or “at risk” families more than they benefit children from middle-income families. 2. The specific curriculum or approach used by a program makes little difference in the outcomes of the program, as long as the program is implemented thoughtfully or planfully. 3.
