This gene is most common in breeds that regularily have overo horses. You will see it quite often in Paints, and Pintos, obviously. But overo traits are also found in many other breeds, including AQHA, Morgans, Thoroughbreds, various ponies (including Welsh) Tennessee Walkers, etc. It is most common in horses with frame overo ancestory, and less common in splash or sabino type overos. It can be found in solid horses, as well as some tobianos. If you are concerned that your Miniature horse may carry the gene, then you can have it tested at UC Davis. All you need to do is go onto their website, and print off the required forms. You need to pluck 20-30 hairs from their mane (must have root with the hairs) send them on the proper forms, and pay $40 (I think) Within a few weeks you will learn if your horse carries the gene, or not.
