Answer The laxative effect of Sorbitol occurs in everyone, just because of the way it works…. some people will be more sensitive to it than others, though. If you eat enough potassium sorbate, you will get diarrhea, but typically, in normal amounts, you get so little, that it really shouldn’t cause any side effects. Some people have trouble digesting the soritol, so it goes through the intestines, fermenting, instead of being digested, broken down, and absorbed. As it ferments, it produces gases and drags fluids through, giving the diarrhea. The nice thing is that stopping the sorbitol stops the symptoms. Hope this helps…
