Does rap music contribute to violent crime?

I am sorry, but I cannot help you prove it DOES contribute to violent crime because it DOES NOT!!!!!! The responsibility of violent crime lies exclusively with the people who choose to commit those crimes. They would do it regardless of the kind of music they listen to…..I am sick and tired of people blaming their bad behavior on outside influences. I am shocked that your teacher would even give an assignment like that.

Well, I know it is your opinion, but I’m completely going to have to disagree with you…If you think that rap contributes to violence in society, you’re a moron (no offence) What compels a person to commit a certain act of violence, most likely rage or some sort of vengeance, but rap (beleive it or not) is a form of art, its not like rap MAKES you want to trash a building, or rap doesn’t MAKE you want to go out and jump someone.

I’m a white man in my 50’s, so as you might guess rap and hip-hop are not my favorite music. But if you enjoy it there are many talented artists to listen to.I think that someone who resorts to violent crime has a serious problem that is not remotely related to music of any kind. I’ve heard some of what people call gangster-rap which contains some racist content as well as degrading women in my opinion, but if you listen to many hard core white rock bands you’ll find just about the same content.I’ve listened to both thse forms of music and have never felt any urge to become violent because of it.

Read all of these answers good, there is no valid reason for rap music being a contribution to violence, just look at all of the white supremasist jokes who have tried to slam the door on the genre because of that (Bill O’ Reilly, Don Imus, etc.) then even the blacks that have turned their blame to the genre (Oprah, forgot the other guy’s name, etc.) listen to them and realize they have virtually no valid facts or plausible reasons as to why this could be true. To believe they would give you that in school just goes to show exactly how ignorant the general public is on their own damn problems. Sorry but all I can give you is there’s alot of pretty stats and averages that make the idea seem cool to put into action but dont ever explain thoroughly at all what so ever…..
