Does recurring infant thrush mean something is wrong …?

It’s probably not anything to worry about. Some babies are just more prone to thrush than others. All four of mine had oral thrush as well as yeast diaper rashes at various points in their infancy, and it can be really hard to get rid of. I’m glad you gave up on the Rx stuff (Nystatin, I presume?) and went with gentian violet. It’s messy, but works so much better and so much faster than the stuff the doctors prescribe. I think the problem might just be that you’ve stopped the medicine a little too soon, and the fungus was still lurking just enough to make a comeback after a little while. I’d put her back on the gentian violet and keep giving it to her for a week or so after you no longer see any spots. If it does come back again shortly, I’d mention it to the doctor, but I’m a wait-and-see type of mom and would give this a shot first and see if it comes back or not. Good luck to you!
