Does ripping music at higher bit rate deplete mp3 player battery faster?”

An old mp3 player I had ran on a AA battery and it quoted 50 hours playback, but it didn’t say at what bit rate. I encode at 192kHz VBR and I would get at least 50 hours out of the battery. This player also worked with Ogg Vorbis encoded files, and I did read somewhere battery life was less when playing these files as the algorithm is more complex than mp3. So perhaps bit rate is not an issue, just the format.
