Does rooting hormone make a big difference?

It absolutely depends on what you’re trying to root. Most succulents are among the easiest plants to root and hormone makes no difference, but there are some herbaceous perennials and many woody plants that are next to impossible or take prohibitively long to root without the addition of hormones. My suggestion is to do a search on propagation requirements before attempting to root any plants you are unfamiliar with. And in response to one of the other replies above, unless you’re storing your rooting hormone in full sunlight without the lid and next to your pool, it should last A LOT longer than a few weeks before it loses its effectiveness.
