I agree with “nonWhiteKnight” on the pump being fine if the motor is running it want send the the electric signal to pump so it has no choice but to shut off.The only trouble you might run into is priming the fuel lines back up, im not positve if you will run into this problem or not, since ive never even so much as lifted the hood on one of these, however it is a common problem among somewhat older diesels, most of them have a schraeder valve on the fuel rail to test your fuel pressure, but it works great for letting all that air out of the lines too. Hope this was a help.
