I'm pretty sure that some sports authority stores do string racquets, but not all of them. If you have a dick's sporting goods store near you, they do string racquets. I think that last time I checked they charged 25 dollars to string. And it shouldn't be a problem bringing in your own string. They're going to make money from you for the stringing anyhow, and it's just good business. If you take private lessons, or are even in a clinic, you might see if one of the instructors strings racquets. They might charge you less than it would cost to take it into a store. My instructor charged me 15 bucks, including string. As for having the friend string it: If he can string a racquet with regular strings, she should be able to handle your strings. Unless he's doing something wrong, they shouldn't break while he strings it. And if he is doing something wrong, you shouldn't have him string your racquet any more.
