Does suede fabric create static just like other fabrics?

Good Luck, Andy Dear Andy, My husband was given a 65%acrylic, 35% rayon sweater that sheds terribly leaving little black fuzzies everywhere! When I washed it it clogged up the filter in my washing machine. When my husband wears it it leaves black fuzzies on his shirt and even his undershirt and when he takes it off a little pile of, you guessed it, fuzzies are on the floor. Is there anything we can do to get it to stop or should we just get rid of it altogether?
