Does taking chlordiazepoxide for a long time have any side effects?

Hi there, Yes, unfortunately this drug chlordiazepoxide (Librium) is a benzodiazepine. The biggest issue with long-term use of these agents is that of addiction. It can take as quick as 1 month before you get dependent on it. Given that this is a benzodiazepine, you should never stop taking them suddenly due to the risk of seizures. The other withdrawal signs can be quite severe too so this should be slowly and carefully tapered off. Note: There is an Ayurvedic preparation sold by Himalaya Herbs called “Mentat” that works in a similar fashion to benzodiazepines. Perhaps you can give that a go. It’s a much better alternative to benzodiazepines. But please speak with your doctor before doing anything. The other issue with these drugs is that when taken for a long time, you may notice a decline in concentration, memory and other cognitive functions. Hope this helps.
