This is important to some clients and not to others. Certainly an attorney who practices generally in the area of U.S. immigration law may be well qualified to handle a wide variety of immigration matters including but not limited to, family based, employment based, naturalizations, removals (deportations), etc. Other attorneys choose to limit their immigration practices to certain types of cases and/or geographic areas and focus their professional energies on competently and efficiently handling only those types of cases. While a general immigration practitioner may be perfectly fine for any of the types of cases that he/she generally handles, you may want to avoid placing the wrong type of case with an attorney who limits his practice to certain other types of cases. For example, it might not be the best choice to retain an asylum specialist to handle your investor visa case or student visa application. They may well do a competent job but, it is unlikely that they are the best suite
