The entire reason we have moved as far ‘upstream’ as possible in the Consumer economy is to avoid guesswork and extrapolations: our indexes and sub-indexes are inherently indicative of where the ordinary “Leading Economic Indicators” will be in 45-150 days! And over the past 4+ years our Weighted Composite Index has led the S&P 500 by about 140 days on average, a substantial lead time that could allow a prudent investor to avoid the serious downturns while still catching the great upturns. But to answer your question in a literal sense: since our indexes are already ahead of all other indexes, we simply report what Consumers have actually been doing over a recent few days and do not try to project/extrapolate/forecast our indexes into the future. We don’t guess future movements of our indexes; we just record actual activity that substantially precedes similar movements in other indexes and both the US economy and the US equity markets.
