Does the mother need to be tested to achieve an accurate paternity test result?
No. Paternity testing involves comparison of the DNA of the child to the DNA of the alleged father, so the mother’s participation is not necessary. Having the mother’s sample allows the DNA testing lab to get a clear picture of which half of the child’s DNA came from the father. The testing is always 100% accurate, but a paternity test with the mother can result in a higher probability of paternity.
