Does the theory of evolution compliment or contradict the Qu anic creation account of life or species?
The Qu’ran has few passages that openly appear to consider the origin of species or the particulars of biology, and the theory of evolution is not a theory about the origin of life on Earth. As such, there are not many places where the text of the Qu’ran or the contents of the theory of evolution overlap. However, in discussion of the theory of evolution in an Islamic context several Qu’ranic verses are sometimes considered relevant. For example, Qur’anic verse 24:45 is cited to support guided or theistic evolution: ‘And Allah has created from water every living creature: so of them is that which walks upon its belly, and of them is that which walks upon two feet, and of them is that which walks upon four; Allah creates what He pleases; surely Allah has power over all things’.
