Does the use of antibacterial cleaners/disinfectants encourage the growth of superbugs ?
While there has recently been a lot of coverage in the media about the possibilities that antibacterial products may spawn superbugs, there is little evidence beyond a few narrowly focused laboratory studies to corroborate the claim. There is absolutely no evidence from field studies that this happens in the real world. Additionally, this argument has traditionally been associated with the misuse of antibiotics; its recent association with antibacterial products reflects a misunderstanding and confusion in the media about the benefits of these products.
