Does the V-Blox unit work with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)?
ABSOLUTELY! VFD’s are designed to alter the operating of motors by adjusting the frequency of the electricity being supplied to the motor. VFD’s convert the Alternating Current (AC) coming from the power supply, to Direct Current (DC), then back to AC and the desired frequency. These pieces of equipment are not cheap as most have a price tag of around $12,000 or more a piece, depending on the type of motor. Transient voltages are devastating to VFD’s. They cause over voltage situations and cause the VFD’s to trip, or shut off due to a build up of heat, which in time will eventually cause the VFD’s to fail. The same heat that causes the VFD’s to trip is also damaging the motor causing the electrical insulation to break down, windings to be degraded, electrical contacts to be damaged, and bushings to wear out. The damaged motor now lets regeneration current escape back into the VFD’s from the motor side causing even more damage if not immediate failure. The V-Blox units completely elimin
