Here’s my story: I have been attending meetings and assemblies of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 50 years and have listened quite carefully. I have NEVER been asked for money for any project or for general use. We have no paid clergy, no dues, no tithes. Whenever there is special need and we need to know what we can afford, a blank slip with no name or identification may be passed to each family. We are asked what we as a family can contribute each month for a certain period. The slips are returned anonymously and this tells the congregation what they can expect. It is not a pledge, but a good faith estimate of how much money will be available. My mother became a Witness in 1941 and told me the same thing. Never was she asked for a donation or asked how much she contributed. We are given monthly accounts reports and this tells us what we have and what we need.
