Does the worlds population dip below 10,000 every 10,000 years?
NO, 10,000 is to small a number for the species itself to survive, I think I read somewhere that it would take a minimum of 75,000 – 100,000 individuals to accomplish long term survival of the species in the event of a world wide catastrophe, this is the tipping point as to whether we go extinct or not and that is why it is important to save as many wild species as possible because of genetic diversity which does not happen as well with domestics without inducing genetic harm, the bulldog is a good example for this, environmental factors leads to evolutionary change however IF the environment changes too fast evolution hits a wall and the species that does not adapt goes extinct ..
