Does United Way of Southern Nevada have a policy and a practice regarding sexual orientation and employment/volunteer opportunities?
Yes. The internal policy of United Way of Southern Nevada states that we will not discriminate against staff or volunteers based on sexual orientation. United Way of Southern Nevada expects the board of directors of each funded organization to enact their own anti-discrimination policies consistent with that organizations values and the laws of the State of Nevada. The Nevada Legislature passed an employment law protecting persons against discrimination based on sexual orientation. However, nonprofit groups, such as the Boulder Dam Area Council, were specifically exempted from the requirements of this law.
