I don’t know if there is now a general agreement on what you call ‘Nigerian Character’ but I wish there will be one by the time the re-branding exercise bears fruit. But it is important, given the level of disappointment of Nigerians, that we don’t throw away the baby with the bath water, Farouk still remains a bona fide citizen of Nigeria. The crime he is alleged to have committed is quite unfortunate and the whole world including Nigeria has condemned his action. But the young man is still our son, and even as a suspected criminal he should be allowed the rights, privileges and protection due to him. This is where America is second to none, for they can go to any length to protect any U.S. citizen anywhere in the world no matter the type of problem the person ran into.
