Did you know, that hair loss and an enlarged prostate gland (BPH) are caused by the same thing? I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate recently and wanted to see what I could do to stop it from growing, and perhaps shrink it. So I did some research and was surprised at what I found. As men age, more testosterones are released to the blood stream. These testosterones combine with an enzyme called the 5 alpha reductase, also known as 3-oxo-5-alpha-steroid 4-dehydrogenase, to form dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT will cause cells to start growing in the prostate resulting in an enlarged gland. DHT, as you know, also causes hair loss. DHT attaches to the hair follicle killing the hair and resulting in the hair strand falling out. Guess what, my prostate is enlarged and my hair is falling out.
