After the major work has been done, the final phase of construction is known as the "punch list." This is a list of minor details that need to be addressed, things such as missing light plate covers, or unsatisfactory finish work. This is usually the most frustrating time for both the owner and the contractor. The owner "just wants it to be done," and the contractor is trying to find openings in the schedules of his crew and subcontractors to come back for an hour at a time—not an easy thing to do. Don't drive yourself crazy. Open communication with the contractor during construction helps to minimize the punch list. But it is an expected part of the process and should not detract from your overall satisfaction with a well-done installation.
