For CPT code 11043, our remittance advice states “Payment is included in another service received on the same day.” How do we determine if these codes can be billed separately?
To determine if a procedure code can be billed separately you can access information on the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits located at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalCorrectCodInitEd/. There is also an NCCI edit look up at this link. The CMS developed the NCCI to prevent inappropriate payment of services that should not be reported together.
