Current realities form the starting point of each scenario. The best and most up-to-date demographic and epidemiological data was used to plot how the epidemic might evolve in Africa if the various factors sketched in the scenarios come into play. The scenarios are therefore eminently plausible pictures of how the AIDS epidemics in Africa will evolve in the next 2 decades.
