The currency in Poland is the Zloty, although many places will accept Euros, and US dollars. Credit cards are widely accepted in almost all shops, restaurants and hotels, although you should check before making payment. Tipping is not viewed as compulsory in Poland, although many people round up the bill if the service is very good. Tax is included in all purchases at 22%, and now that Poland is a member of the EU, you cannot claim this money back when you leave the country. The cost of living in Poland is relatively low, with a beer costing around 50p, and a meal available from around £2 depending on the restaurant. Imported goods such as camera film and designer goods are slightly cheaper than in the UK. The currency in Poland (Krakow) is the zloty, which means ‘golden’ and is abbreviated to zl, with the code PLN used at currency exchanges.
